    Default My second pen

I really like this buckeye burl. I would have liked the finish to have been better but I'm still learning to use CA as a finish. When I was building custom rods I had to do the same thing till I found a finish and technique that I satisfied with. Thanks to everyone for always answering my questions. I'm sure there'll be plenty more come.

    Thanks Y'all,
    Steve

BEB is always a nice timber to use, your finish an fit up look very good. There are that many methods on finishing with CA that you will eventually find a process and modify it to suit you. Are you using Micro Mesh for you final sanding? A lot of the guys use a plastic polish on their CA finish and use white diamond as their final polishing compound.

bdar....I'm sanding through 1200 wet sand paper. I'm getting a really smooth finish but just gotta learn applying the CA. I wanna get the hardest most durable finish to last for years. That way if someone does buy a pen they will be please by how long the finish has lasted. I'm thinking of using a product called "PermaGloss". Rod builders use it a lot because it's the hardest finish available. But it smells really strong. Wont hurt to try it.

BTW, thanks for all the compliments and responses from everyone.

    Thanks,
    Steve

Gidday Steve, Darren's right. MM under a CA finish helps to give it a deep shine.
Permagloss can you please tell me more about it?

Why sure Toni! You can find everything right here http://www.u-40.com/permagloss.html. I've used the stuff on many fishing rods and it is some really tough stuff. But it smells to high Heaven and dries pretty quick. Not as as quick a super glue though. Also, if you're not using it up pretty quick it will start freezing up in the bottle. It's by far the toughest finish to put on a fishing rod and it's very thin. I'm gonna order some more because my bottle is solid now! If you know of some rod building supplies stores in your area you should be able to get some. They should carry it.

    Thanks,
    Steve

betcha Burl Ives would not have been happy to be mounted on a lathe - best fasten the legs and feet together and glue the arms down. Maybe microwave too. i gotta stop now afore i is sick.
