Pen or exotic post OS?
Hi guys,
Just wondering about overseas postage stuff, i've never sent anything other than prepacked food oversea's and i was wondering if any of the more experienced pen creators here in australia had any advice in regards to sending timber or exotic type pens overseas. Any pitfalls? do's? dont's? cannot's?
I think i can source say deer antler here from an aquaintance's deer farm, but could i then turn a pen pack it and send it to a friend in the states without quarantine issues? same question for timber pens? I know a few folks here i've read participate in pen swaps, just wondering what the go is with posting rules.
If it is a problem or an issue i could just do some acrylics (no issues there right?) but i think i'd rather send timber or antler and give em a more unique gift.
Neal.

From my understanding finished sealed timber is ok to be sent OS. Raw blanks, particularly those with bark on or bora holes can be a problem.
Finished pens are ok - the International pen swap is testament to that - a couple of hundred pens flying around the globe ok
I recently sent a salt/pepper grinder pair to Israel without dramas, though I left them empty as I couldn't be sure that pepper corns would be considered seeds which would definitely be a problem.
Oh, and of course the customs rules vary country to country so it makes sense to check out the destinations rules before you post the items.
Cheers,
Dave

Just a note on the costs.
Try to keep the package to just under 500gms. If it is over 500gms the USA charge you an extra $9 per package.
I sent 2 x video boxes of pen blanks to USA both were just over 500gms & they cost me about $45 each.
