    Default New pen kit

I was in at WoodnWorkshop on Friday and Bruce had just taken delivery of a new pen kit. It went up on his website over the weekend, called the magnetic pen. It is a young persons pen according to my wife, and as I am and always will be in that category due to an annual review of the transition age from young dude to old fart ... I like it. Cap is held on the nib and the post by a small magnet in the cap. It gives it nice clean lines. Blank is Bruce's acrylic called pewter.

Apart from the clip, it look likes the Dayacom Magnetic that GPW offer.

    Hi,

I have seen these before here on the forums and else where or at least something very similar. You have done a nice job with the pen which really shows off the blank too. Bruce's blanks are very nice blanks.
The only thing I do not like about this pen is the transition between the nib and the body of the pen. But then that's just my opinion/asumption as I have never held one in the hand.

    Nice work though

    Cheers
    Tony.

    Default NIB transition

    Hi Tony,
I agree the transition from nib to the body of the pen looks severe but at least for me, holding the pen in a normal comfortable position, my fingers do not touch the nib when writing (pic attached, including bonus stains from touching vise polyurethane glue). If you look at the one Bruce has on his website, he actually flares the body of the pen out at the point just above where your fingers would hold the pen. It might be interesting to try this, but it is confortable to hold even with straight sides. Also being a rollerball it is a relaxing pen to push around the paper. I wish there was some twist versions of rollerball pens, they are so much nicer to write with.

Hi Gingerbeer Both the dayacom magnetic and the Rhizeng style you have here do suffer from the sharp dropoff aesthetically , a simple chamfer in the design would make this look a lot better, but thats a manufacturing thing. Roller balls are similar to Fountain pens which are capped to prevent drying out and leakage possibilities , as an alternative you can get Parker gel ink refills for twist pens that take parker style refills. These are similar to rollerball in the writing characteristics Cheers ~ John

The colours of the blank are great and nicely turned. I do agree with the comments about the transition from blank to nib. It takes away a bit from an otherwise nice looking pen.

I agree. I think the blank looks very professional. But the kit looks just like the Zen from CSUSA with a different clip. Personally, I've never cared much for a magnetic cap, especially a solid metal one. To me it just doesn't seem to go with the rest of the pen.

No the kit does not wok for me. Great blank and finish on the example shown , but I am not inspired.
