As Stirlo said... they look very well crafted but very over the top... did everyone see the American 400 Year Anniversary one here @ $39000 USD for the jewel encrusted gold one. Not sure how many Australians would be supporting the 400 year anniversary of the States to that degree.
CorbsIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

The cheapest I saw was $300. Why would anyone pay that much for a pen, I don't get it.

Then again Groggy, I saw some skews and chisels for 10-15 bucks, and saw some Hamlets for 75-100 bucks, wonder which was the better quality? Some people who handle a pen a lot know quality when they see it!/ Amos

Look at dangermouses Emporer. Now there's a pen that should go for some good money.. But like others said, the pens in that link are terrible. I don't like the shapes nor the kits. $300.00 bucks? They put the . in the wrong place, it's supposed to be $3.00. I've been on this sight for a couple of years & have never seen a member post anything that horrible. Have seen a LOT of outstanding items. If that stuff is supposed to be "class', I guess I'll never get classy. But if I had one of them--guess I could use it in my shop--if it will write. Just my opinion on that sorta stuff.

Some people like the cake, some people like the icing. I guess most people here turn pens because we like the way we can make the timber look, and what shapes we can bring to the pen. It's all about the timber. Maybe these folk (judging by the amount of acrylic on the site) it's all about the pen and the patterns that they can wrap around the timber or acrylic. They like the icing, we like the cake.
Having said that, they still look fuggly. Not my cup of tea at all even if I do focus on the "whole pen" and not just the cake.

I have to agree with Mobile Man, these pens do nothing for me, I think part of the problem with these sort of things is that with such high prices people think that they must be some exquisite piece, even if they don't look like it. I think a lot of members here can and have produced a lot nicer looking and probably better quality pens. With that said I think that we all underestimate and under value our own work, especially when we know that a kit for say an emperor is around $100. How could we ever dream of trying to sell it for $500 or more, even though it is an outstanding pen. Our conscious plays a role here, where as companies like this are mainly concerned with how much money they can make.

Like most of you I am not a big fan of these pens....much...
PArts of them are okay - I like acrylics and make as many acrylics as I do real wood (is Dymondwood? real wood....anyway) and I personally like a well done acrylic.
The problem is they are too much...waaaaay over the top, ostentatious, gaudy even and dare I say it (not to offend anyone) but just a bit woggy.
The sort of pens a new york rapper dripping in bling would use to sign his new record contract.
I asked a few people's opinion on their range and it was universally canned as too "busy"
But I guess one man's trash is another man's treasure and if nothing else admire the skill and work that went into creating such ugly works of art...
My 4.7 cents worth - adjusted for inflation, interest rate hike and GST...
