My Pen Storage Solution
I am putting this in this section as the purpose of the storage unit is for pen kits.
Originally I had this

I picked this up from the street from a previous garbage day. I had been using this for the pens kits but the more variety of pens that I make the harder it became to keep this neat and organised. I had found that I had placed kits in two locations and it had become very messy.
So the idea was to either go and purchase a specific cabinet or storage system to get everything in one place. I looked around and could not find anything that I liked. After all I have to like the system of storage so I can feel comfortable using it.
As I could not find anything I though that I could use the plastic takeaway food containers as they are long enough for pens.
This is what I came up with,

This is basically a chopped up Ikea table. It holds three plastic containers on each slide out tray. I originally made it to hold four but decided to divide it into two sections. The back part is open at present as the partition is in 3/4 the depth of the unit. To stop the tubs from sliding off the back when pulling the slide I places a little stop at the back. The shelves are slightly tapered into the slots and I used the shinny side down after applying wax on the slides.
These tubs are disposable as after a while the plastic will degrade so should be easy to replace. In order to know what is where I put masking tape on the tubs so that I can label the contents and on the side of the unit for each slide again with the masking tape. It took me 1.5 days to build.
As this is from a recycled Ikea table the sides of the unit were bowing. I allowed the bow to travel out from the centre and after I put it together I drilled aligning holes at the front edge to insert a dowel. I clamped this together to ensure that this was same width as the top and bottom. I then glued, inserted and wedged the dowel.
At the moment I am not sure if I want to mount this to a wall or use it free standing. So far I have attached wheels on the bottom of the unit.
I will work with it for a little while to see how this goes.
What do people think? Should I have done something different? What improvements should I do?
