    Default Pen Swap

I have just been told by Australia Post that I can't send my wood blanks to Canada or Wichita Falls to my swap pals as the import of wood items is prohibited. Has anyone encountered this problem please? The made pen to Canada is OK.
    Cheers,
    Shirley

I have sent many blanks to the USA and Canada ,never a problem at all.Never a problem recieving either ,although once quarantine removed one blank that had borer holes in some ebony ,but sent the rest on as no holes in them . Check with Canada post for their rules on dressed timber in wax sealing . Sometimes definitions of imports are misinterpreted . Good luck with it ,or go to a different post office hehe. Cheers ~ John

Go to another post office just write pen and pen blanks on the declaration form.

I have sent lots to Canada and have just swapped with Marla and she got hers no problem.

You could also try putting a coat of wax or varnish on them to make them sealed

I was given similar info when I originally went to purchase a box to send my pen and blanks in. Had no such issues when I went back to post it a few days later, lack of experience I think with the particular assistant on the day.

I retired as a Postmaster 19 years ago so am not up to
    date with the latest regulations.

Nowadays I go to my local agency and had no bothers
sending the made pen and some blanks to Canada last week.
But, she made no effort to check on restrictions so I just
hope all is ok for the recipient. (Gofer).

As others have said change post offices.
    Good Luck

Smile Blanks to Canada (and USA)

This topic has come up previously. Sending wood through the post is OK just as long as there is no bark - that seems to be the big bugabear, as it seems borer holes are up there too. I have been bringing wood back and forth across the US/Canada border for quite a few years, and not just pen blanks, so I think somebody is way out in left field.
