New Pen Turner - Addicted
I decided to try pen turning last week, after putting it off for quite a whille.
I am now addicted.
Have only made 6 pens so far, the two in the pics are the latest two.
The cratridge pen is a 308 winchester with fallow deer antler.
The slimline is burl I found while bushwalking, I think it is dogwood.

Welcome to the addiction.
You will find that from now on, every time you go bush walking your always gonna have a look out for new pen blanks that you can salvage.

Very nice work. You must have some experioence though, doing a cartridge pen would be a big step for an absolute beginner.

Thanks for the comments.
Buzz,
Have done some turning 20 years ago, but only basic bowls with a scraper, these two pens were my first use of a skew.
This whole thing could get expensive as I now need a good lathe and chisel and ....
I did an earlier burl which didn't come out quite as I wanted and I tried a BLO and CA finish, made the burl 'Pop' a lot more. The one above is with hut PPP (White).
I'll make another one and post the the difference.

Howdy,
Nice start. As a complete new turner in general & pens (when I get my equipment that is) I must say, I hope my first efforts turn out that well.

As i looked through the Tasmanian Zoo, their was a deer with only 1/2 and antler!!!!, only joking. Well done mag, I really like the Burl, I think that a "thicker" style pen, maybe a Sierra or a Vista Sierra(slightly bigger body) would really show up that beautiful burl. You did good! Amos
Good, better, best, never let it rest;
Til your good is better, and your
