Thanks to Nathan for hosting. I learned an exceptional amount. Corbs is quite self depreciating, but he's an excellent teacher. Many new techniques, hints and fix ups were learned. Much better than any book.

I went to bed as soon as I arrived home. 11.30pm and I was zonked. Woke early with the eager anticipation of going out to Fyshwick to grab some accelerator! Boy was I keen..... Was. Closed. So was NitroDude. bummer. So very Canberra! (still not used to everything being closed on weekends)

It will have to wait until Monday. Instead I've been filling up the cart on Timberbits. Golly it adds up fast. Shame I missed the pen assembly part of the night. It must have been all that violent hammering Ilya was doing . I was under the impression that there was some kind of "press" to push all the parts together.

Perhaps one can be made? Timberbits has only a single plastic one... Not sure why, but I was expecting something....er, more sophisticated.

Corbs, wouldn't happen to have a link to that disassembly kit you showed us?

Ilya, thanks for the pen. Everyone I've shown is impressed. My wife knew I didn't make it when I gave it to her...."too good". . Hows that! What was the timber and where did you get it? It matches the gold slimline wonderfully.

The trip to bungendore sounds good. If anyone feels like a trip out, think of me and I'll drive. It would be good to give the HSV a blat and blow out the cobwebs. It looooves those hills.

I should have shown you, the pen press that I use is all metal components and pretty good, had no problems with it, only 40 from timber it's under pen press tools. Take a look again

Yeah I'm going to get some more ca and practice practice practice.

Thanks agin corbs for all the blanks you left behind also, found some really nice jarrah ones that will make a nice gent, will post pics soon....hmm just realized the camera I use was my phone soooo the photo part may have to wait a bit lol

Think Ilya said he got that wood from Russia on a trip he had over there recently, don't know the name though

Oh believe me Neil it happen, we just can't prove it lol well I can't anyway

I was going to suggest the 15 or 16th at my place in nov but since corbs is hosting the next one I'll leave that up to him

We were too busy making pens (there may have been a small amount of talking rubbish as well )

There's nothing wrong with the Timberbits one, this one from Carroll's is also very nice. It's got a spring which holds the pieces together as you're applying pressure. It's like having another hand which comes in handy sometimes

I don't think anyone in Australia sells them but here's a few links to some from the States:
    PSI
    Woodcraft
    Exotic Blanks
WoodTurningz (near the bottom of the page)
    Wood Turners Catalogue

I have a school reunion down in Victoria the weekend of 16 Nov so won't be around. I think Neil was going to be in town in Nov sometime so if it's not over that weekend then could aim to meet up with his schedule. I have little athletics on Sat mornings but a Sunday lunch & shed time would work well for me

They're known as transfer punches, most engineering supply places stock them.

I picked up this set from Gary Pye when I visited there a couple of months ago.

    GPW Transfer Punch Set

I also saw the McJing set when I visited there and it appeared to be very similar if not the same.

Thanks for the links guys. I'll grabs some of those transfer punches when I order the vices from McJing.

Did the new workbench top and legs glue ups today. God, imagine doing that every day, it would make you as strong as an ox. 3 inches of timber over 18 square feet is a lot of weight. Used every damn clamp I own (shame there isn't a glue that can be instantly cured with high powered RF device)

While it dries I'm going to turn some pens! Hooray! Bought some CA and accelerator as suggested by Corbs yesterday and finally a chance to use it..... I'm have to admit to quite a bit of trepidation!

In light of our early visitor to town I'd like to extend an invitation to my humble shed this coming Sunday. The Minister for War & Peace has approved the invitation. I will start a separate thread and post a link in here shortly
