Many pen turners in Canberra?
Any pen turners in Canberra at all that would be keen for a pen turning session?
Meet, greet, Coffe, pen turning and talk jive and share tips or hints. Especially if anyone casts their own blanks also I'd be keen to see their setup
In about a few weeks as we're expecting our 2nd born any time now

Depending on where and when, I'm interested
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

That would be great Corbs, i dont have any dates set and its nothing big. Would just like to chat about anything pen turning and obviously make some, see how we do things differently. I've just started out and am completely hooked so would love to branch out and meet fellow turners. I'm in belconnen have u tried casting blanks before Corbs?

I haven't tried casting but am interested in having a go at the worthless wood blanks. My bucket list in the shed is a long one. I'm out in Bungendore.

Yeah i remember i was suppose to come out and visit ages ago as my parents live out there. Unfortunately I can't bring my lathe out as it's not a midi! lol maybe next pen session can be at yours
I'm doing some research into what's needed. I'm going to get it together and see if i can have some home made casts by the first meet. Evanism should be coming along too

Sounds good, I've got two lathes out here if you want to arrange a visit sometime. I'm off work until 1 Oct so have a bit of time up my sleeve. If you want to come out then let me know.

I sense a session!
DaiSensei and Corbs, during the CWWWS I had , WoodTherapy, Trav, Delbs and DaveTTC over for 2 loooong nights of tea drinking, food, tall stories and a shocking information dump from (top bloke. He's amazing)
It was a really great time, at least it was for me (I'm really loud and boisterous, not everyone's cup of tea)
I'm really keen to give pen turning a real crack and Delbs is pushing hard...well, he's actually doing it!
It would be my privilege to host a night, or join in if it's elsewhere.

Absolutely, come along. Evan told us that you were keen to meet up at some stage, this is a good number so far if there are about 4 or 5 of us then we can all have a turn on the lathe or at least watch close enough to see whats going on. I've got enough space ( now that workshop cleanse has finished) to have us all over comfortably too

I am sure that would have been a fun couple of days You should have got to show you how to make a
pen (sorry couldn't help myself) But as for organizing a GTG then I am sure you couldn't go wrong specially if you can get the wize one (Dai Sensei) to turn up. I was lucky enough to have neil stay in his camper at my house a few months ago for 3 days and i learn so much in those 3 days it wasn't funny. the unfourtunate thing about it was that I now pester neil over the phone whenever I get into trouble (often) and to his credit he always helps me out when he can. So my suggestion would be to organize it around neils visit.
Cheers Ian

Fantastic, great to know. Well as of the 19th me and my wife just welcomed our beautiful son into the world. I am off work for a while but as you could imagine can't set a date for sure yet.
Happy to have something small with Evan (think the pen bug has spread to him) to practise bit more but yeah I'd be happy to set a date in the not to distant future to have a gtg at my place or evans
I got a 8x6 brick garage and have recently reorganised so should be fine for a few of us in there
