How Its Made - Pens
Hi Everyone.
I was in the process of uploading another video onto Youtube when this video caught my eye.
Have you ever found it difficult to explain to a friend or stranger what pen turning is? Well this video may help.
The guy in the video looks like he has Asian hands. Must of been filmed somewhere in Taiwan or China.
Have a look -----> click here ---------> [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ytp_V9bdSQ]YouTube - how its made? " the pen "[/ame]
I hope the video link works ( don't know how to embed the video onto the forums).
Hope you found it interesting.

David
Pass on that hammer and glueing the parts in full marks for simplicity in cutting, glueing several different woods. Never fell asleep so it carries my interest all the way through, my curiousity is aroused in what poly glue dries so quickly brass to timber. Entertaining indeed. Thank you for sharing with us.
Regards Peter.

Brave man gluing in the fittings like that, would hate to have to take the nib off for any reason...which I have had to do a few times...

What I am interested to know is how are several concentric rings done on a pen's barrel?
Like the pen pictured - I'd love to be able to emulate its style, making two pens to commemorate the life of Don Miguel Cervantes and his "mad knight" Don Quixote De La Mancha
The first I would like to make will have a wooden barrel from Spanish Cedar or Spanish Oak, with aged brass metalware
The second might be too difficult, but I would love it to have an epoxy-impregnated canvas barrel (for longevity) with aged silver/pewter metalware.
.. to explain: each of these would represent the windmill that Don Quixote "fought" thinking they were giants. I know folks may feel these ideas are pretty way out ... and I guess they are, but I feel approaching the project in this manner will add to my enjoyment of the pens and possibly start some good conversations when I use them in my workSteve
