    Default pens from today

    Shoalhaven Woodcraft Society had a pen workshop today where we learnt the finer points of finishing pens with C.A, 20 coats of it! and I had my first dabble with acrylic as did the others!
    we all had a great day and thanks to all involved!

    Sounds like it was a useful workshop. Glad you got something out of it.

    Just a question. On that wooden blank on the bolt action in the second photo. I notice at
    both ends there seems to be some chipping. Is this the result of using bushes that became
    glued to the blank, or is it the eukt of assembling the pen??

    I think it was from getting stuck to bushes I was questioning this today! it's not a good look! also a trap for young players!

    Are the ol stuck to the bushes trick . Use Delron or cutting board cone bushes to avoid the problem when doing CA finishing. The CA should still be scored even with the cones, with a very sharp cutting edge, to ensure the CA breaks away from your blank end. Then the blank needs to be trimmed true again, but not with pen mill!
