Where do people get pen stands from??
OK, so I asked about cases earlier.
What about pen stands? I went to Addictive to get some this morning, and they're not listed on his new site? Nothing at GPW, Carrolls or Australianwoodcraft either. I thought I'd seen them here in Aus somewhere, anyone know where?
Imd really just looking for something like those clear Acrylic nes to take some better photo's with the pens standing up for now. Surely we don;t have to go OS to find them?

Wouldn't be that hard to make. In school we did some work with perspex. Heat the area you wanted to bend, and bend over a straight edge. Hold in position until cool and then move onto the next bend. Easy stuff to work with and you can make them however you want. Have been thinking of making one for bottle stoppers out of the stuff.
CorbsIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

I was going to make one up out of an old leaflet/document stand that I saved for something (?) for a rainy day.

Well,
It appears there's a dearth of Acrylic stands in Aus, so looks like I have a go at Acrylic Stand production. Anyone got any recommendations on thermo-manipulation of perspex?

Russell
Did a little years ago and from memory you can use a bar radiator and cover the front with something that allows an inch or two of heat through and then lay the bend over this section.
Bend it an either hold it till it cools or run under cold water.
Clean the ends up by sanding then rubbing with Chloroform, if you can get hold of it, otherwise sand and blowtorch. Chloroform can also be used as a glue.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike,
I think I have a sheet from when I made a friend's son a marble run a while ago. I was wondering whether a heat gun would make it hot enough, and evenly enough. Apparently 80 degrees is the magic number to get past, and no more than 150.
No chloroform I'm afraid, but some sawing/sanding & buffing should do, as long as I'm careful not to crack or splinter it.

Have you thought about going to a jeweller wholesaler or shop front wholesaler? They should sell this stuff.

When I made some perspex stuff ages ago a heat gun did fine. Just need to remember only heat the bit you want to bent or you will get a real wide bend. I just clamped it in a vice then clamped a strip of timber on the other side of the bend section. Made some nice clean bends and came up real nice once polished.
