Piano Sierra
Its Russells time to laugh, this should have been finished 1 1/2 hrs ago, BUT- CA went on OK! then in removing the blanks- cracks in ca on the ends, so Sand all off, and restart with care, finally finished, HOWEVER--
I stand on a platform about 6 inches high so that I can comfortably turn at the lathe-easier than trying to shorten my bench legs and storage space underneath the bench.
Well, here I am turning and CAing away, I have a little drip tray with water in it just under the mandrel , that way I can dip[ my Acrylic pads in the water and any drips fall in the tray--until-- just by accident I bumped the tray!- the water headed for me and clever me jumped backwards and avoided having water on my pants, Alas, in my crowded workshop, just behind where I turn, there is a tool box, in jumping out of the way I kicked the tool box- the tool box sits hard against a chair- it pushed the chair- the chair sits very close to a tripod with two Halogen globes in it(which I have going to allow me to see better)-The chair hits the Tripod and pushes it over, one light goes out-busted- I quickly pull the plug to the lights-now it is safe-but the lights get extremely hot and they fall onto a green garbage bag awaiting to go to the garbage- hot metal melts the plastic!!, Well after cleaning up- this pen was the result. Bugger ! sounds like one expensive pen does look very spiffy though ,one of the reasons I am trying the clear castings is to be able to achieve such things in the future, great work on the pen ,not such good work on your workshop I guess its better to break a light than a leg though, so good in that respect, Cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

The kit is from Kallenshaanwoods USA,. Arizona Silhuoette has them BUT they don't send overseas, so you either get a good USA friend to on send them to you, or ask Kallenshaanwoods to send to you; the blank alone is quite costly, the blank and the white holly are laser cut, you then fit the white Holly key block into the blank and CA, then fit the brass tube, and turn. The Black Ti Sierra is from Addictive. PS now I am waiting for you to have a little mishap and I can laugh too!! PPS in fact I will laugh in advance, that way I can act serious when you tell us about it!!! Amos

Beautiful pen Amos
Sometimes it's better to have slower reflexes, that way you would just have wet pants, not so much damage I remember something similar, but not to avoid water, and ended up A over T with a thin steel bar stool leg on either side of my chest. Scared the crap out of me, 2" either way and the legs would have been through my chest - I have subsequently thrown out the chair.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Did anyone else have Benny Hill music playing in their heads while reading that?
... in the end, nice pen AmosIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Oops, ouch! At least I didn't break anything expensive.
When I first saw it, I thought you had one of Charlie's label blanks Interesting little kit that one, must have been rather fiddly. As usual though, you've come up witgh a good result.

What a pretty pen! Looks like you've solved the problem with the fine black lines between the keys. Anything special we should know about turning this blank? Glad a light was the only thing busted.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Al, with this type pen, just have to be watchful as you turn, with the Jnr. Statesman you MUST bevel the edges to leave the main body fatter to preserve the lines on the keys, the Sierra seems better in this regard, but I take care anyway--once bitten twice shy! Amos
