Default Picasso Stretch and Do Hickey

Received some Stretch Roller ball kits and some blanks as a gift.
This particular blank is from Jeff Powell of the IAP, he called it Picasso blank so I stuck with the name. You will note it is a closed end with Do Hickey. I wish I could say it was planned that way- but no- the Do Hickey was added to save the blank from being scrapped.
I actually finished the blank with no Do Hickey, in putting it together the end of the blank just crumbled because it was so thin, I was being extra careful and had cushioning around the end to spread the force-but-crack.
So, do hickey plan swung into action- I didn't feel like doing it , had to sand millions of layers of CA off, glue the do hickey, cut it back sand and then apply another million layers of CA(felt like it). All I wanted was to finish so I could take a rest.
Well this is the final result.
I would like a proper sized closed end mandrel for this pen, the one I used was just a little small (for another size pen), and it allowed some unwanted wobble.
Meanwhile, this awaits your valued input. Amos

What a pain , if you had started off as a dohicky pen would have been easier for sure, I have had some of these for some time , just never found a pen suitable for the things lol, I think maybe a black ebony or buffalo horn may be the go Nice gift though ,and a nice result in spite of the change in plans ,alls well that ends up well Cheers ~ John

Very nice, Amos. I like what you've done with that kit. That pen is a real eye-catcher for sure.

Well done Amos you have started well on the stretch / Dayacom pens. A beautiful blank and a great save with the Doohickey if you had mot told anyone no one would have been any the wiser.

Now that you have made one what are your thoughts on the kit?

John, any thing in the jet black or dark materials looks outstanding in this kit with the rhodium, bakerlite is perfect. The kit can be got in gold and black ti but you will have to go OS to get them and there is some etching on the nib carrier on the OS ones.

These kits are not to be mistaken for the Zen, the Zen is not in the same league as these.

Sam, Now, that I have made one, I am impressed with their weight and balance, speaking of dark wood, that 1000year wood from Oistein is destined for the next Stretch, but I don't think I will make it closed end. Amos

That is one nice looking pen

I normally look at the photos first and then read the story. After looking at then Pen I was shocked to read that the end cap was due to a stuff up I thought it matched the pen very nice so well done the recovery
