first pics
I thought I should contribute rather than just look. I really enjoy seeing other new pen turners work and watching their progress, learning from them as well as the more experienced. I figure if too many just look there'd be nothing to be seen. Without these forums I would have had no idea where to start.
So here are my first pics, which is in itself an achievment, well it will be if they actually appear and are identifiable as pens.
I made this for my bros. birthday, I come from a large family, and a bloody huge extended family with in laws outlaws hangers on etc. so no shortage of recipients.
This one is a piece of Melaleuca root, ca finish, cheers, Seriola

G'day Seriola. Really nice job !!. I'm just a beginner too, but I have had unreal success watching David from Timberbits series on pen making, There are 9 segments on his web site under the heading " Instructions". I must admit, I have watched them all over and over for hours before I attempted my first pen, but I've had great results right from the start. Here's the link to these instructional video clips. Hi Seriola
That a great looking pen. I am sure your brother is going to be happy with that.
A hand made pen is always a great present regardless of the occasion.
Thanks for sharing.

Hey Seriola,
Welcome to the slippery slope of Pen Turning, I'm sure you will run out of family and Relatives way before you get the perfect pen done, and then there will be freiends of friends and mates of friends and then there will be casting, and worthless wood and ................., mate get out while you wtill have a chance,
On a serious note,
You seem to have a good looking product there, so don't under sell yourself, and enjoy the addiction.

Thanks for the feed back. I am enjoying the hunt for nicely figured local blanks as much as making the pens. The chainsaw and bandsaw have been getting bit of a workout. So is my keyboard right now, cockatiel reckons she can type, she can't.

Great looking Writing Instrument Seriola!
Fit and finish look excellent with a good choice of kit and plating to complement the timber.
Well done.

Nice one! i have a similar situation with a rather massive and complex extended family. The biggest issue is remembering who you have already given pens, etc too
Cheers,
Dave
