Thanks for the 'heads Up' Harry. The Jarrah Burl looks kinda scary, very flakey and brittle but looks amazing. I've never turned anything so full of holes and voids. It's almost like the consistency of a Flake chocolate. Thompy & Plantaganon are comming up here in October to make a mess in my shed, and generally run amok in the tropics, ha ha. Might keep this bit till then.
....'nuffin wrong with wandoo ... that is what we learnt to cut as firewood with an axe as kids!!!! That and jam fence posts (if you have met jam you know what I mean):o:o:o ... when I first met jarrah I couldn't believe how easy chopping firewood could be! Then I met tuart :o:o:o We have tough timbers here in the west, taught us persistence and worked out frustrations!Quote:

NEVER thought of it as flake chocolate!! OMG I did think resin would be in order with that timber! With maybe some sparkle too. Enjoy it!Quote:

Never heard of wandoo before. It looks like a soft wood tho. Then again I am a crow eater.
Wandoo AKA White Gum .. even white ants / termites leave it alone!
Eucalyptus wandoo is an attractive medium-sized tree with smooth white bark. While relatively slow growing, it is drought tolerant, has excellent ornamental attributes and produces excellent honey. It is also considered moderately salt tolerant with potential for rehabilitation of saline soils [4]. Eucalyptus wandoo produces one of the toughest and most durable woods of any eucalypt [1]. In the past it was used for railway sleepers, poles, flooring and for heavy and light construction. The bark was also formerly harvested as a commercial source of tannin. Natural stands of this species are now valued for their watershed protection [1] and in the past were a major source of honey [5].
