    Default Plastic bags galore!

So what do you do with all the snap-lock plastic bags you get? I mean, some can be re-used, but I've already got a huge stash of bags from the pens I've done, and I'm sure many of you have done hundreds more than me.

It seems such a shame to throw them all away. Maybe we need to start a plastic bag recycling centre for pen turners :P

I have got a big collection of these bags in my shed.

At the moment I use them for keeping pen blanks in sets filed away for use.

I find that they fit 3 pen blanks which have been cut in half, drilled, glued up and milled. That way the halves stay together in sets ready for use when the time comes.

I also find the Daycom bags are the best.

You shouldn't have that much of a problem with the 8 pens you have made so far.

    1. These are what I use to keep my bushes in. One set per bag, with the pen type written on the outside.

That way when ya drop the buggers they don't go scurrying off into the dim, dark corners of your workshop or leave you spending several hours trying to work out which bush matches up with what other bushes.

Sure, you can measure each one and build a database... but why bother?

    2. I also use 'em to keep my pen parts in. Because I mix'n'match bits out of different kits, I simply put all slimline nibs in one bag, all centre bands of type X in another, clips of type y in another, etc. It akes finding any particular type of fitting easy, as all I gotta do is find a bag full of 'em, instead of rummaging through kits looking for one which still has the right bit.

    3. Finally, any ratty ones are excellent stuff for spreading CA when applying a CA finish.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

This is how I use my pen kit plastic bags.
I put client pens along with Pen Material Description card, Refill Changing Instruction Card and a Business Card with a photo of the pen on the card in each bag.

They also work well if you got a piece of timber with big crevices that keeps tearing out the paper towel. Use it to apply the CA and it works brilliantly as it harder for it to tear
    Just another thought

    G'day All,
Anyone that doesn't want them can send them my way I go through thousands of them.
I will even cover your postage some how.

    Cool.

Maybe instead of covering postage, offer something like $1 off your next order, for each 100 bags, or something like that, whatever the economics work out at.

Yep that is what I was thinking, I will take some off the postage cost of your next order.
Well for those of you who buy your kits from us anyway.

I just came up with another use for them last night. I opened a bubble pack containing four tiny brass hinges and sixteen extremely small screws. I only needed two hinges and eight screws. Well, you know how those bubble packs are - once you've cut them open all bets are off of the remaining stuff being in them next time you need it. I reached for one of the small zip-lock bags that I keep from pen parts and both hinges and the remaining screws fit perfectly. Now I know they will all be together next time I need a small hinge.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.
