I think you mean " UNprimed " Fred I had this same issue getting some 50 cal kits from a IAP member a while back ,customs stopped the first order ,and because I thought the order was lost I reordered and paid again ,bottom line the second order was delivered normally while I went through hoops with customs and queensland police for a permit to import, I got them in the end ,but had to drive to eagle farm customs to pick them up ,as they maintained australia post would not deliver ,they were not happy that I told them australia post already had delivered the next order while they stuffed around ,Like Tony I could not see the problem with drilled out and powder coated "dummies" trying to wade through the relevant clauses sub clauses and so on was a soul destroying excersize in futility, but I did get them in the end ,and to add insult to injury they are available with difficulty here in australia ,the lucky country lol. Cheers ~ John
Tony give them a call to get the details and procedure you need to follow to get them cleared ,and let them know you will be putting in the relevant claim, make sure its on the record and you will be fine ,just ( p###ed ) offG'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

You must have a permit to import ammo! into Vic before it enters the country, i learn t the hard way,i did get some thru Customs lucky i guess, but i failed with one, the bullet had a mans name etch into it, there was a 10m brass tube thru it,and a drilled out slug inplace, to me this was useless to work in a firearm Customs told me to get a permit,i had to write to the police of firearms the coppers gave me a permit and then i had to send a letter with the police permit to the Minister sitting in Capital hill, it was sent back wrong permit from Vic coppers it went on and on in the finish i dog and boned Custom and told them to crush tha f----- thing,so try and get ya permit first about 4 years back i think.

I went through this many years ago when I lived in Queensland. I was informed by the department that if it ever was a shell or part of a shell you needed to licensed to have have in your possession.
At the time i was trying to import used cases that had been powder coated as no one had the powder coating tools here in those day.
They also said I needed another licence to sell them. Gave up on the red tape and just made local ones not powder coated.

Sam ,between state Police and federal customs they are on different planets, throw in the Aus post ,and all logic and common sense goes out the window ,whatever (so called) Public Servant decides in their wisdom to advise their superiors about such nonsense should move to Queensland As an unlicensed person I can go into any firearms dealer and buy over the counter new unprimed castridges and non explosive projectiles ,no licence no permit required . I can't work out the logic ( unless one of the Ministers) owns a munitions factory cheers ~John
PS, not all public servants are non compos mentisG'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Same in Victoria and SA, I buy unprimed brass and and non-explosive projectiles all the time and I don't have a gun licence.
As far as pens made from real brass, as opposed to the fake kits, I send these all over Oz (as well as pens made from them) and have never had a query or a problem. As far as sending overseas I have sent both the kits and the pens made from them to quite a number of countries including the USA and have always put on the customs declaration that the parcel contains bullet kits and/or bullet pens.
As I said in a previous post I have ordered and received quite a number of different caliber cartridges, including .50 cal, from the USA, and have never had a parcel confiscated by customs.

must admit, I'm unsure how one should respond to this
do I recoil in horror at the thought of the ignorant dissasembling 50 cal ammunition in their garage
or do I post instructions on how to do it safely?
perhaps better to encourage people to acquire bullet pen kits, which are inactive from the startregards from Alberta, Canada

A deprimed shell doesnt rate as ammunition. A shell fitted with a spent primer, may cause some concern as there is no telling if the fireing pin indent on the primer actualy ignited the primer, thus rendering it harmless. To assertain the primer statis, it would have to be removed from the case or test fired.
