Postage by air for fountain pens
Hi everyone,
I need to send a fountain pen by mail, from Sydney to the Gold Coast. And another shortly to Tasmania. I'm guessing that they will most likely be sent by AusPost via plane, not surface transport.
How do fountain pens hold up with being on a plane if they are already loaded with ink? Does the pressure of an aircraft make the pen leak everywhere? If so, how do you all ship your fountain pens to people? I would imagine you'd send it with an empty refillable cartridge, and perhaps an unused disposable cartridge to get them started?
Also would it be different in the carry-on area compared to the mail cargo area?
Thanks, Simon.

Pressure in a plane should not be an issue - after all you put your pressure packs like shaving cream and deodorant in the hold of a plane. The simple answer is to remove the cartridge and you won't have a problem.

Thanks everyone. Posted a fountain today and just sent the refillable cartridge in it but empty. Also sent a spare disposable one.
It's a bit of a shame, because the first thing people will want to do when opening the package is trying to write with the pen. A shame to then discover they have to visit a stationary store, buy a bottle of ink, figure out how to load it up in the pen etc etc.
