A work in progress
a work in progress, didnt have time to finish the top barrel that will be next weekend when I get 3 days off but here is the bottom part of the slimline. Snakewood, but I am looking to change it to a black chrome instead of the gold.

Nice as usual Darren. I do agree the black chrome will lift the spirit of the blank

Great looking finish, Dar! Nice work on the snakewood, as well, I've heard that it's a bear to work with.

Snakewood turns very easily, doesn't dull tools much, and achieves a very high luster with very little work. Probably due to the incredible fineness of the grain. Where I have trouble with snakewood is splitting a week to two weeks after the pen is assembled.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

love the finish, and it definitely looks really good, but i agree with you, the black chrome kit would look heaps better.

Cisco and Karl you are right about snakewood it can be soo good to turn and finish and two weeks later you can be on your knees saying why, why, why. That is why i take my time drilling, let it cool back to room temp, sometimes leave it a week before gluing the tubes in place. This process can take up to a month then I finish it and then after it is done leave it for another month after that. My snakewood pens go through this process each time. Which reminds me will have to get some more from Chits from America

Amos in one word, yes. When drilling I drill 3mm clear out and keep doing it until drilled out and i drill as slow as i can turn the hand wheel. This is how I do it mate, others may say OMG what a process but I havent lost one since taking these steps to making them.
