    Default Progress in roof drying

The progress is to this stage installing a rotating front bladed fan in the roof.

Some special Blanks, Mallees and other species.

Further along and above I fitted a roof ventilator fan that assists in the air flow. The roof is a tiled one that builds up a lot of heat so this move is to create a warm to hot flow of air through the blanks rather than cooking them.

    It works for me. Peter.

The imitation of the leaning tower in Italy result is me confined while pic taking.

Interesting blank collection there. Is the white end some sort of grain sealer?

I assume you mean you're drying your blanks in your house roof, is that what it's about?

    No and yes.

    The end colour is sapwood.

The drying takes place in the roof space , I have fitted a floor on the joists.

The heat comes from the tiles above in the roof space.

Many years ago I fitted a folding ladder that dissapears in the ceiling and pulls down with a hook on a dowel enabling access in a half a minute in the ceiling space under the roof. This gives me an oportunity to to use the roof space quickly to instal TV antenae, run extra power and lighting etc, worth ever cent and a good investment.

    Regards Peter.

"ring ring" "ring ring" phone does not answer at Peter's place!!!? Where could he be?, We searched high and low , but not high enough, there in a corner of the roof, all hunched over and arms full of blanks a voice is heard,"Ah! my precious!" Next he'll move his bedroom up there, he will cut the feet of the bed and turn them into blanks!!

    Hey Peter

Is that the Euc burl board that sent you? If it is, its curling up like spaghetti.

See if you can train it to make a complete circle so that both ends end up touching one another.

Ok now I know why it's so hard to find good blanks, You hide them all in your roof . .
Nice work. If I get a free weekend I will have to go and buy some nice big pieces and cut them into blanks. That list of stuff to do is getting very long.......

The vertical board is indeed the Euc Burl you sent me only a small curve so far before I put it in the roof, looks great.

Thanks guys for all the horsing around we do in the name of the Pen they really test you out with ways to improve cutting , drying , glueing , finishing , presentation ,it almost always is worth the effort. The fan I used cost but 15 Dollars at the Reject shop or 30 odd dollars in Coles same brand everything.

Sam take care I am moving forward but mostly outside chores pacing myself with small tasks , less stress.

Amos I have no oportunity to cut any Red Mallee until I can access the large bandsaw that is being fitted with new bearings in the guides etc. It may be two weeks or more before that will happen the other burl is not dry.

Interesting I used to cut off all sapwood must be going through another phase leaving some in.I will see how it goes.

    Have fun. Regards Peter
