Darren, nicely done as usual, but I can't see the purple in it!, is it a bit like that pink wood that goes brown when heat is applied??? Amos

Nice pen... does Purple Gidgee come purple or is it a reference to another part of the plant (flower or leaves?). The Gidgee that I have is very dark brown (nearly black).
CorbsIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Purple Gidgee is not purple, well not the heart wood anyway, there is a purple band between the sap wood and the heart wood that varies in size. I have a piece of Pink Gidgee and to put it beside the Purple Gidgee you can not tell the 2 apart form each other and ordinary Gidgee. Toni you may have had some Dead Finish or Acacia Acaneii for it to be purple in colour. Here is a photo of a vase I found on the web to show why it is called Purple Gidgee.

Toni I would love to see a photo of your father-in-laws Purple Gidgee, because every site that i Googled to make sure, has a representation of Purple Gidgee the same as the vase in previous thread. I feel as previously I said it may be Acacia Caneii or even a Dead Finish. Ricmond is north of Winton and half way between Townsville and Mt Isa. It is on the Cities list and if i remember Stirlo was about when I mentioned it to everybody

Darren,
Sharp pen to be sure. I love purple gidgee. I had four sticks of it. I used two for a fundraising auction. When I saw how nice it looked, the remaining two went into my reserved stock drawer.
