Questions
Hi Guys & Guyettes
I need to tap into your knowledge, I have a couple of questions.
Have any of you owners of the Carbatec mini wood lathe had problems with the belts spliting down the centre?
I've had mine for about a month and gone through two belts in under six hours use all up. Tonight it blew the fuse as well. Back to Carbatec tomorrow again....
Secondly can any one identify this wood, it didn't have any label/name on the blank it turned up nice though.

Kanga the fuse blows if you put too much pressure on the work ...Its a slow blow fuse if you need them.
My belt started to shred but I found that the headstock pulley was loose on the sheft and this caused it all fixed. Mine is a sherwood but very similar.

Kanga,
I have had my mini wood lathe from Carba-tec for about 3 or 4 weeks I guess I have clocked up to close to 80 hours already and not had a problem.
It is possible the pulleys are off centre but I have also heard of once that a lathe kept shredding because there was a casting fault in the pulley - not a carba-tec but a gmc lathe.
I would have said the wood was Quninine as the end result looks excatly like a piece of quinine I just turned into a pen.______________________________________________

Thanks Pete
The problem became a bit worse when I found out that it needed a new motor and gearbox as well as the fuse and timing belt.
All fixed now so we will see how it goes keep your fingers crossedKanga

Thanks Andraax
I dont think its a problem with all the lathes as such but a few have had the same problem with the timing belts.Great to here that you are one of the lucky ones but I must say that carbatec have been quick to fix.
Thanks for your thoughts on the wood guys.

Kanga I bought my Carb-a tec with my first ever holiday pay from Coles Myer 17 years ago still on the orignal belt and motor, touch wood. Is there any burrs in the pulley tracks? Hope you get it sorted soon.
