If it was a race it would be a DEAD FINISH
Todays effort. This Dead finish is exciting as it is so red. I used two separate pieces so as to use the sapwood twice. The kit is red.
When I started out to photograph it was bright sunny, but set up finished it was overcast. It glows, played around with the shaping as well.

Peter,
I have never head of dead finish before. That is beautiful. I love the contour you put on that pen. It really works with the grain as well. Almost makes it look like it has a twist in it. As always, outstanding job on the pen and photography.

Oooo, nice Peter, I love it, gorgeous grain and color.
I still have the two pieces you sent me, I'm saving them for the perfect kit, then I'm going to use it for an exam pen.
If I recall, it's a tough little cherry?? tree that the natives said if it ever dies out, we're dead, finished, if it can't survive, nothing else can. Thus the name dead finish. Am I close?Wood. Such a wonderful substance.

Nice pen Peter, I am making the blanks you gave me the other night into a Gold Baron at the moment. Successfully turned today and putting finish on at the moment. Will post pics when its done... really beautiful wood.
CorbsIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Peter
it was a dead finish or the nature of the timber to be dead last. Beautiful colours revealed in the timber and the marrying of the red kit to the blank to compliment each other. I even don't mind the treatment to the top half of the pen. I will always be a B2B pen crafter but will vary for customers.
