RE; Pen/Drill sizes
Well what a lousy weekend. As stated in refered title I driiled for 8 pens and got ONE.
Here are the results. By explanation only.
2x Grey Gum Burl. 1 tube out 1 shattered on turning
2x Platypus Gum Burl. 1 shattered on turning. 1 good one
2x Jarah. 1 tube out. 1 split after assembly. ( about 5 min after)
2x BOW. 1x tube out. 1x assembled wrong. ( my fault )
Please do not ask for pics as I am to embarresed to show. Just admitting is bad enough.
As they say experience is better than schooling.

Cookie48, as said we have all had stuff ups. Photos, types of pens you were constructing and process that lesad you to where you didn't want to be. Also if they were Jr Gents the drill sizes to use are 15/32" Drill Bit for the cap and 25/64" Drill Bit for the barrel. The 25/64" is snug but it will fit the tube.

Pidcs of weekend failures
Here are the pics of my dismal weekend.
1. Tubes exiting blank
2. Blank blown. ( i know you can glue dust in but I do not like doing that.)
3. End put in back to front
4. Cracks in blank. Bit hard to see but either side of clip
5. Platypus Gum Burl.
6.No 3 Fixed. Timber is BOW.
I think I know why 4 occured. Insert was not in straight to start with.

Gidday Cookie
Sorry to hear that you have been having so many problems but may I add that I have had a similar run lately but mine has been with bloody acrylics and one was a snake skin blank (my fault nothing wrong with blank) I got near the end of some of them and BANG gone!!! there goes another one.
Moral of the story is chin up your not the only one who has rough patches.
Cheers Ian

Hang in the Cookie, we have all had our troubles and that is how we learn, just a pity that it all happened at once for you.
Jump back in and have another go
