    Default Red Cedar Pen

    G’day.

I turned this red cedar pen for my mum’s birthday. The kit is just the slimline with a stylus on the end. I’m pretty proud of it honestly...

Good looking pen Benny!!! Making pens are a good project because the duration of turning - finishing is short and you can have a good result quickly. Mum should be happy with her gift
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

    Thank you!

Yeah, on the lathe the white bit turned gold but it’s become silver now. I just bought the blank from timberbits and wasn’t expecting it to have a grain like that...
Glad I made it though. Mum likes it :P

Nice work there Benny. I agree about the grain in that blank, plenty of character, that's what you want for a pen. No wonder your Mum likes it.

Say G'day to your mum from me for her Birthday.
Good to see you are getting a bit of shed time, a nice result which should get you a few brownie points.

Well done Benny. The finishing of the blanks look like they match the metal bits well. What was the finish you used and did you do it at home or at the club?
Always good to get a blank with nice grain variation or contrast.
Glad mum appreciated the effort you have put in to it and I'm sure she is proud of what you have achieved.

The finish was just 11 coats of shellawax and I did it at home.

I'm not a pen turner but that looks like an excellent pen to me and very well finished.
Shellawax and Danish Oil are my two favourite finishes at the minute. Shellawax is easy to use and gives a fantastic clear finish.
