Red Gum Sierra
Finish is ok but I whittled off just too much on the ends and a little brass now shows, sorry about that, this piece of red gum from Sundowner had many cracks right through it, so i used gold glitter to fill it this time, very tedious work in stabilizing as I went along. Here it is anyway, Amos

Nice work there Amos. Could you have shortened the barrel to remove the brass showing. I think the Sierra's have a bit of a fudge factor in them for length.
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Amos
This is a superbly finished pen
I'm not sure I like the glitter, sorry
My quandary is that I think I prefer just a simple black fill rather then something else
But what would I knowregards

I also am not a fan of the glitter but the basic finish is supurb .... as usual.
I can quite see the brass issue though. My inexpoerienced eye are not sure what I am looking for.
Cheers.

I know what you mean by the glitter, have had that reaction before-BUT- in reality, those pens tend to attract attention and go more quickly than the others so i was willing to give it a go, I do have some Ebony sawdust for filling, but first i must try some green glitter on the next one! Amos

Corbs, could you elaborate on where it is that I can crib a little on the barrel, I think I will try it if i can understand exactly where to do it. Amos

I think what andrew is saying is that you can shorten the tube a litle bit and it will still go together ok.
I would be something to play with to see how much it can be shortened.Jim Carroll

Nice pen as always
I do not mind the gold glitter I think you have the right balance in that pen. You could get carried away and have to much glitter but I think you have it spot on.Cheers Rum Pig

I don't know how much though. It would be pretty easy to do though. Put a Sierra together (don't put the cap on) and push an unfinished barrel on. You should be able to see how far the mechanism is from the end of the tube. The cap will take up some space but I guess there would be a few mm to spare there.
