Default The Red (mallee burl) Baron

    Hi All

A couple of firsts for me tonight (although as I'm fairly new to this a lot of things are firsts). This is my first go at the Baron rollerball and my first go at turning a piece of burl. I've seen pics of red mallee before and I'm even more impressed to see it in person. Had a couple of hiccups along the way. Had the cap almost down to size and hit a small void in the timber. Managed to save it by packing it with dust from sanding the bottom half and a bit of thin CA. It turned out good but I hid that under the clip just to be safe .

So here it is the red mallee burl baron (I think it is an ace and definitely a keeper). Kit is the Baron II from Timberbits, I also got the blank from David. Sanded to 800, 20 coats of thin CA, micromesh to 12000, brasso and Hut Ultragloss.

Thanks for looking and as always constructive criticism is welcome.

    cheers
    WH

    Beautiful. You did well.
What did you use the Brasso for? Hope not the metal parts.

Frank, Brasso is used to polish the Ca finish or if you use WOP the same. Brings up a great shine. The paste was the best but unable to find these days.

A good looking pen WH red mallee is always a beauty
