Default Red Mallee Churchill Closed end pair.

Talk about trials with closed end pens, this set took me to new depths of rescue. Something little things that could be improved, and I think this set looks better in presence than camera. Open for your comments, Thanks Amos

    Can I call DIBS!!??

Amos, you continue to amaze me. Excellent job. I know others are concerned about clipless pens, but they sure do look schmick.

I'd give it a go if I had a decent closed end mandrel, but I have so many other purchases on the go, it's crazy, and I'm not game to try with a home-made job.

Looking very good Amos, you got the shapes on both pens to match very well

That box makes for a good presentation.

Thanks Fred, Russell and GP, yes you can make them the length you want, in fact that wwas my problem this time round, The secondary hole drilled with smaller size to accomadate the refill/ink pump was not quite long enough so had to hand drill gently until all would fit. Amos and no it does not post Russell. Amos

russell, i have an adjustable mandrel that i use, lets say i was doing a jr gent closed end. i start at the cap end. with the clip end facing the live centre i put the bushing on mandrell, then i screw the blank one half turn onto mandrell. i then seat the bushing up to and into the tube. then i push the blank up to the adjustable head then tighten up. then bring the live centre to the blank and turn it down. i will try and get a pic tomorrow

OK I must be having a Blonde day, as I still don't follow. Hopefully a picture will help. I haven't used an adjustable mandrel either, so maybe that's contributing to my confusion.

russell, the blank for the cap end you cut approx 2 inches longer. then lets say the tube is 2 inches long. you cut you blank to 4 inches long. you drill a pilot hole with a drill bit that is just a little smaller in diamiter than the mandrell rod about 5mm longer than tube lengh, glue in the tube and square off. so now you have a tube inserted in a blank, but at the other end , is solid wood/acrylic. now you place the centre band bushing into the tube and when it gets as far as it goes on the mandrell screw the blanka little further on the mandrell ( about 1/4-1/2 turn only or you will crack the blank. then push the blank and bushing towards the headstock and mandrell head. then tighten the mandrell with the grub screw. then bring the live centre up to the blank and turn your blank. here is a pic of my adjustable mandrell. note the thread on the end of mandrell,, that is what holds the blank onto mandrell and screws into the blank at the live centre end.
