Red Stringy Pencils
The tree trimmer that has been giving me heaps of timber (6.5t so far ) wanted a pencil for shetching he does made from his favourite of the timbers I scored, the Red Stringy. The timber cracks like a bitch, so pen blanks may be all we get from it .
I cut the 3/4" blanks a few months back, but they were still a bit green, so I gave them a few bursts in my new workshop oven. I then made one of each of the kits I have. He can have all 4 for Xmas, or just take the ones he wants . Photo shows the 0.5mm click Sierra, the 0.7mm twist Cigar, the 2.0mm click Power, and the 4.0mm Workshop.
I deliberately picked blanks with worm holes and faults to add features. I filled them with either brass, coffee grinds, blood red resin, or a red resin/coffee mix . I then finished them all in a thick layer of CA.
I'll have to look at the assembly of the Workshop pencil, it was not until I saw the close up photo that I noticed the joint at the nose has a small gap
I also made his wife a pot pourri for Xmas, see here

Well done Very nice work. I noticed that all the leads seem different sizes and I would like to know the name of the pen second from the left as I would like to get some. They seem a nice thickness lead.
Cheers Ian

What a nice lot of pencils ... I like your effort very much. That is some good looking timber there.
What kind of oven are you curing them in?

It is the Power Pencil
I have a travel oven with temperature control, a timer and stove top elements. My little toaster oven couldn't give me the control needed for polymer clays. I just set it on 100 degrees for 10 minutes a couple of times a day for drying the blanks.
As John said, in actually fact if memory serves me right, John gave it to meNeil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new
