Default Redgum and Red Mallee Burl Sedonas

Just sharing a two pens I recently made for birthday presents for family.

The first is a piece of redgum taken from a fence post. It had a crack all the way through it which I stabilized with CA. I quite like the look of the visible crack in the finished product, but that's purely a taste thing.

Both pens are finished with CA & EEE.

I like the Red Mallee Burl best, the crack in the Red Gum spoils it for me, I appreciate the work and effort in stabilisation, but in this case it looks like a flaw to me. As you said, it is a matter of personal preference and no malice meant by my comment, Amos

It's always nice when your work turns out presentably.
I gave the mallee to my grandfather who dabbled a bit in turning once-upon-a-time, so he was pretty happy just to have someone else in the family interested.

I'm always interested to hear other peoples tastes and opinions. The world would be a very boring place if we all liked the same things

    Thanks for the feedback!

Red Mallee burl has always been a favorite of mine, so that one appeals to me. The quality of fit and finish looks really good. I like the Sedonas, but they don't seem to be a good seller for some reason.
Good to see you posting some of your own work.

I love the crack in the wood/pen. My way of thinking would be to even highlight more with a black or red dye.

I'm a bit of a sucker for burls myself. I was pretty happy with the finish I achieved on them, not perfect but good enough. I'm surprised to hear Sedonas don't sell well, I wonder why?

Ooh, that's a cool idea. I would never have thought of that - not sure I'm that brave just yet, but I like where you're coming from!
