Neil good idea with the cooler bags this is a bit big for that tho. It is a concern (the heat of the day) as its going to buckl easy in the sun me thinks............might need to find shady tree if and when I take them anywhere.
buy a couple of reflective windscreen shield (the 'alfoil'/padded type) and sew them to size - make a pocket flap as a closure, maybe even a couple of sticky velcro dots to keep it shut !!!

sorry, the sewing teacher just came out in me ....

Neil I did use foam but pens which were on the large side and a number of extras made it just wasn't going to work well.

    So what to do

Take some real nice Tassie Oak 35mm thick x 200 wide which was I was given it had been butt joined corners rounded. I cut off 12mm x 4 pieces that was the sides then cut that down to make two new frames. Dragged out a not to bad looking scrap ply sheet and make a new box.

Similar dimensions as the other but thicker around the edges 12mm and 35mm deep each side. Pens won't touch now.

I will still use the other one above for slim lines.
