    Default Retrospective

Well my healing and shed time have served me well, here are a selection of Retro pens from Addictive Pens. They have been customized so they look like an Americana. The timbers are Yellow Box, White Oak Burl, Olive, Red Gum, Murray River Cypress and Red Ironbark. See what you think.

My favorite is middle row - top. But, they are all very nice.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Terrific, love that white oak burl. Would be my favourite.

Not bad. I'm not sure I particularly like this style of kit. Is it popular?

I like the burl, but I also like the red ones. How was turning the ironbark - was it difficult?

Darren your work is beautiful as usual, I like the spalted Burl and the Red Gum best- as for that style of pen-it hasn't grown on me yet! Amos

First thanks for the comments, Amos, yes the White Oak Burl is something else, all the way from Arkansas. Russell the Ironbark was fine to turn, it is the same with any timber, very sharp skew chisel and very light cuts and minimal sanding is required. As for the kit, I sell a lot to women who like it slender look and also it has a double twist mechanism as well. When sales for it slow down I usually keep one as a sample and have 4 to 5 kits on hand. I am going to try the Purse pen and see how it goes. My smaller pen range is always changing, but my high end range is pretty constant.

I thought you might like them Fred, yes the Cypress was wonderful to turn and the full piece barrel shows the colour and the fineness of the grain well.

Yeah Sam and Fred has a big back yard too. Australian hardwoods are beautiful timbers to use in furniture and turning and are often discounted in being used. Simply because they have been used in fencing or as construction timber in the building industry. All the timbers where a joy to turn.
