Scary times with Circuit Board
Survived my first circuit board Sierra.
This was very different from other plastics/acrylics I've turned. The 'plastic' (not sure if it was a resin, or acrylic, or what) seemed still sticky on what was the top of the casting, and during turning, I had 3 separate "Oh heck, no!" moments as large chunks of the material came out.
Needs a veeeery delicate touch, nerves of steel, a surgeon's touch, thoughts of silk and melted chocolate to get this one done.
Looks good finished, though.
Cheers,
Andrew

As you say ,not for the faint of heart lol, I did a couple of these yesterday 2 at once on the mandrel , It was doing these inspired me to try some embedded casting which came out well I thought. The main problem with these circuit pens is cost hehe ! definately not ones to mess up . Pretty sure they are just clear casting though and no real problem to turn and polish. They always look good and are very distinctive ,will get lots of attention that one , well done and hope the nerves are settled now hehe, cheers ~John

Awesome Result
I did one of these after the Syd WW show. Bought from Brett at addictive. It was my first go at an acrylic, so I was pretty nervous, though it turned really well. Not sure what the stickiness was as mine wasn't like that. Maybe you just got unlucky and ended up with a soft one.
I actually find the kit annoying. My two daily use pens are the circuit board sierra and a Wenge Sedona. Much more work went into the sedona, from blank preparation, turning two blanks, finishing was more involved, etc. Everyone at work coudln't give two hoots for it, but they *love* the sierra. . I feel like I can't even say that I made the sierra, as all I did was make it round, polish it a bit and whack it together. Still, it's a fun pen though!
Cheers,
Dave...but together with the coffee civility flowed back into him

Haha, I know what you mean Dave. I haven't done one yet, but I know the guys would love them (I work in I.T.) and I'd have a hard time saying I made it. One day I'm going to rip some old electronics gear up and have a go at doing one from scratch myself. Then I might be willing to pull it out at work
Nicely done on this one though, it is scary wondering if one catch will see all that money on the blank go down the drain.

I think "Amos" does the most scary blanks lol, I hate to think of the cost of some of those blanks he turns up with, not to mention what he does with them as well ,no second chances at all with those , but I agree with russell hard to say you made these circuit board pens ,don't even have to drill and glue lol. Cheers ~ John

Fine lookin pen, am trying to convince a fellow worker she needs to buy one for her boyfriend for chrissy - have a month or so yet to convince her
yep I all but wrecked a similar pen, ie a coconut (obtained from Brett) the other day - nearly $25 a go, was not happy, think I've saved it, but it is resting on the shelf for a less vigorous moment in the futureregards

Hmmm
There's plenty of room inside - maybe drill through from inside the tube, glue in an LED or two, and have blinking lights on the circuit board??
Cheers,
