Out of the shadows
Hi all
Thought I would stop lurking in the shadows and join in this interesting forum.
I am actually KangaMans other half and I don't see why he should have all the fun.
Anyway I have attached a couple of pens that I have made that probably wouldn't have happened if I hadn't learnt so much from cruising around this site.
The first one is beef wood and the second is black heart sass.
Thanks
Maria

Thanks I needed that tonight. All my pens got called stupid today. I got first knocked for my pens then asked if I teach him how to do it too. Part it is there is not guarantee that I could pull them off twice.
Toni
Should come join us in the monthly swap. I have learnt so much doing them.

Sorry to break into the sewing circle, girls but did you or Kanga make the pen stand too, Maria?
I'm looking forward to seeing your future work; it seems the ladies always come up with some new twist to amaze us blokes, such as Toni and her bullet pens.

I wouldn't worry about what other people say as long as you enjoy making them. As for the monthly swap I will give that a miss until I am more confident, truth is I don't have much of an imagination to come up with wonderful designs like the other guys and girls do.

Sewing circle hmmph (I can't find my smiles they've gone walk-about) The pen stand in the photo above I made, Kanga made one of his own that would be in one of his posts, very similar as we took them out of the same piece of wood called dead finish.
As I said to Toni I don't know about new twists I have a very limited imagination but I should get heaps of ideas from this forum to help.

KILT, woman! It's called a kilt!
Nice piece. I was going to ask what wood (I thought 'twas Dead Finish ) but you beat me to it.

Some of my most original pieces came from my early turnings, and now that I know what I'm doing (well... so they tell me) and what's safe, I can't for the life of me copy 'em. I really have no idea how I managed 'em the first time around.

Maria and Toni
More power to you both!! I wish my better half ( and she is DEFINITELY the better half ) would have a look at this forum but woodwork just does not interest her. You two are inspirational, everytime I see Toni's pens I yearn for a lathe so I can experience the buzz of making a pen from a piece of wood. Maria you have joined Toni and all the other pens makers here, I appreciate your photos and admire your skills .... well done people keep it up.

Whatever the glass used to hold you can bet I enjoyed it. Thanks for welcome, glad to be here.
Pete
I bought my mini lathe about a month ago and I am so possessive over it that my other half had to go and buy his own. I love woodwork and it is usually me that wants all the tools for the workshop. My female friends in the street just shake their head at me so I figure it must be me that's abnormal
Jenny
I will probably join in down the track when I get a bit more confident. At the moment I just don't have enough hours in the day for everything I want to do but hey that's life. I am so pleased to be able to share with other females that have the same interest.
Yeah Skew what Jenny said, that Greer woman is on a roll this week, she would have a few words to say.Maria

Maria welcome to the group, and for your first couple of pens shown here, were better than my first pens I made. You can't beat beefwood and blackheart sassy is brilliant too. Have some 45 degree cut blackheart sassy, only big enough for slim lines though. Keep up the good work, the fit up of the kit is perfect.
