Today in the shed
Two pens from today's effort. One is a Sierra set in what was to be lines but ended up practice in Canadian Rock Maple and Tiger Myrtle. The other is a European in Purple Gidgee. Both with 20 coats of CA and the Sierra with BLO as well.

I have to learn how to take photos Troy - hopeless at it unless the camera does it for me. The brick that turned out was supposed to be curved lines running from top to bottom of the pen But it was a learning experience and I think I have worked out where I have gone wrong. If nothing else its enjoyable practising except for the CA burn I got on my finger when the paper stuck to it and started smoking and then the top layer of skin came off with the paper.
With regard to cutting the blanks - you were right. I need a new bandsaw. I will get something better than the old Ryobi I have now.

Same way you did it and showed me. Next time I will use a stronger glue like Weldbond as the CA came apart in a couple of the off cuts. But i made enough to compensate.

Yup mate with them u have to be seriously accurate, and as they're glued across all 3 axis's, and ca is not great with shear strength you'll invariably hit some shear point at some stage. i use CA as its the best at keeping your glue line superthin, with weldbond you may have to use a clamp whitch can be tricky with line ups. Superb job none the less mate. I like the CA as well because it penetrates and stabilises as you build, when i did steve's pen you could see the red cedar sucking the ca through the pores as i pressed each layer onto the last.

Love these pens Greg. They are terrific !. Last Friday I managed to spill quite a bit of Medium CA onto my brand new work shorts while prepping up blanks. Ended up with a buggered pair of new King Gee work shorts, and a burnt and baldy patch 3 inches west of where the boys liveI never forget anything I remember !!

I seriously cant suggest a pair of latex shorts for you mate...
