Sierra mechanism????
Folks.
I have a slight problem with the mechanism from Sierra kits.
I find that I have two (2) different size mechanisms. One is 60mm long and one is 64mm long. (sorry no pics as they will not load to comp)
All kits are from same supplier, and all tubes the same length.
Am I missing something or what????
Assistance once again required from more knowledge sources.
Thanks

If it's just the internal mechanism of the Sierra, will it have any effect on the finished pen?
I would imagine that for a kit like the Sierra, the difference in size of the mechanism wouldn't have any impact on the finished product.
However yes this is weird if it's the same kit from the same provider.

Cookie , there are variations between kits some sierras have a shorter section where the mechanism actually screws into the body ,the body does not go into the nib section as far as others , the same supplier may still get items from different suppliers ,not all sierra styles are the same (probably copyright comes into play) and not all mechanisms are the same either, some have a slightly different thread size as well. Lay out a couple of different sierra kits you may have side by side and the differences will jump out at you , I think you will find the mechanisms are the same length , but the length from the tip of the nib to the where the pen body meets the shoulder may be different if the section where the adapter screws in is longer or shorter , I will have a look when I get home from the markets tomorrow and see if I can post some pics of what I am raving on about hehe, cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Yes, there is a difference between the mechanisms. Different factories and different suppliers have different specifications.
You need to keep the nib and the corresponding mechanism together. If you mix and match different components from different kits, you will find that they may not be interchangeable.
The length of the Brass tube is the same for all manufacturers. The length of the brass tube is not really that important in a sierra because the back of the mechanism slides into the end cap that holds the nib assembly in place. There is a 5mm give in the hole on the end cap to cater for a shorter brass tube.
Let me know if you have any further questions or need more information.

Oh dear.
Looks like I will have to go through my kits and sort them all out.
Another lesson learnt not to charge of like a wounded bull and not look at what is happening.
Thanks for your help folks.
