a few sierra pens
Hi All
took time of from the big stuff to complete this order of 40 Sierra pens
All are in Heuon pine and are the Australiana Executive Sierra from David at Timber bits (who went out of his way to help me with this order)
The Heuon is from David's own stock and I can't thank him enough
All are finished to 1200 and N/C sealer then my usual Rustins finish
the first photo is of my finishing bars the blanks are placed on here as they are finished on the lathe, the whole bar is placed on the lathe for the intermediate cut then 2 at a time on the mandrell to finish polish
look forward to your comments

Hi Bowl Basher
Great looking set of pen you have there.
The finish on the pen are top notch. You have a very cool finishing system there, might have to borrow a few ideas.
Thanks for sharing.

I Stand All Amazed Graham
What a delivery, outstanding effort and so many complimentary things racing through my mind. Suffice to say so much to take in at once.
Typical David getting involved is the word, the finish is outstanding, well organised.
You chose an old favourite Timber of mine that is so unique complete with its mysterious journey in life, terribly slow growing and individual.
Congratulations all round.
Regards Peter.

Thanks Peter
But I must confess the choice of the timber was the customers, I got to chose the kit and finish
If it had been my choice I would have used Brown Mallee Burl or coolibah burl as I am not a great fan of the exalted southern pine tree
But the customer is allways right.... when they are paying the bill.....

No the finish is applied by hand abrush in one hand and the end of the bar in the other brushed along the length of the blank. The bar is only rotated in the lathe to cut back between coatings (4 brush coats 1/2 hour apart cut 4 brush coats 1/2 hour apart finish)
