Silky Oak fountain pen + bonus
Hi Everyone, and a happy new year!
Everyone seemed to love the silky oak baron fountain pen I made recently, and a family member put in an order straight away for another one.
Finished with 21 coats of thin CA, and polished with micro-mesh all through to 12,000.
With a few off-cut blanks of silky oak, I also made this chrome keyring kit and a gold letter opener.
Comments welcome. Simon.

Very nice pens Simon. I have found that Silky Oak varies a lot in quality as I suppose most timbers do. Scrounge around for the remains of old timber furniture made from SO and cut it into blanks - the quality of the grain is outstanding normally.

Tanks for the tip. Yes it varies a lot, and its not until after you have drilled it out, glued in a tube, trimmed it to size and then begun to turn it that it will show its true colours.
