Slimline Pencil Problem
Hi All
I have tried to do my first slimline pencil (kit from timberbits). It turned fine and i loved the blank I used. It is in construction I have my problem, it just doesnt seem to fit right. When put together the mechanism doesnt extend out of the nib end and the top end looks too short (pics two and three). I tried to follow instructions i found on the web but they dont quite seem to match the kit. I had wondered whether the tubese were the wrong length but they are the ones from the kit. Any ideas where I have gone wrong? I guess I could disassemble and turn into a normal slim pen.
Thanks in advance

I won't be able to help you here sturina. I've had the same problem (parts not from your supplier) with 7 or 8 pencils to the point where I won't make them anymore. Out of those 7 or 8 I've only put together 2 pencils successfully. I've also had issues with the twist mechanism on few sierras. In both these instances all the parts were Dayacom made. I must say I've been disappointed with the Dayacom kits quality for a while. On the plus side, I know that Timberbits have always been very receptive when there is an issue, not that I've had these problems with them anyway.

Re: Slimline Pencil Problem
Hi Sturina. I've had similar problems with the pencil kits I've done. Mainly, each length of lead is broken in 50 small bits, even before you open the kit bag, then the feed mechanism is also pretty useless as it won't advance the lead down to the nib end. Timberbits does not have an instruction sheet on how to assemble them, and there are a couple of bits that can be very confusing as to which way they go together. Basically it is trial and error. You have done a really nice job on this pencil anyway, looks great !
I never forget anything I remember !!

Sturina.
Rekon if you contact David he will put you straight. Like SJT I have had problems in the past with pencil kits. Even tho I have some more I am reluctant to do them unless someone asks for them. As for the Seirra kits like SJT mine have problems with twist mech allso.

Thanks all. I think I have worked out the problem unfortunately i cant dissassemble the pen to fix. I think that I must have inserted the nib end couple the incorrect way arround which blocks the mechanism from seating correctly . I did try to dissassemble but it is jammed in to tight. I guess it will just go as a display pen, though is usable with care.
As they say its all part of lifes rich tapestry, we will chalk it up to experience and move on. One less mistake to make in the future!

Do you have the right gear to disassemble pencils?

Most of the pencil kits I have done ,have a fine thread on the nib end that the nib screws onto to locate the activater ,does your pencil have that arrangement, if so you can unscrew it and turn the mechanism till it drops into the nib end properly ,they sometimes have a couple of flats to stop the mechanism turning while you tighten the nib. These things are supposed to come apart to replace the refills when needed cheers ~ John
