    Default Slimlines revisited ...

    Back for a visit ...

After not looking at the lathe (or this forum) for over a month or more I actually spent some quality time getting reacquainted with it ...

Tuesday I couldn't sleep after working a 14 hour day so I decided to try the lathe ... this is a piece of Manzanita Root

Today after Church I wandered back into the garage and did this one. It is is Claro Walnut that was given away at our pen turning meeting and we were asked to turns some pens for the fellow giving us the wood ...

Here we have some reel seats that I got to play with the bushes Fred made me.

The top two are Amboyna, the third one is Mesquite Burl and the last one is a piece of BLM I played around with and dyed to see what it would look like.

All are finished with 4 coats of MED CA and then sanding out with Tri-M-Ite and then brasso and Kiwi Shoe Polish.

Looks like you were never away hehe, all nice stuff indeed ,I am one who does not have much time for slims , got my fill of them when starting out lol. But I do like the variations without centrebands ,adds a whole new dimension ,cheers ~ John

Thanks john ... I found quite a few kits I didn't realize I had and decided to revisit them ... finding them fun to turn.

Very nice mate, are the reel seats kits or do you just make them from scratch? How did you hollow them out? (Yes I am knew to this if you were wondering)

The hardware (skeletons in Nickle Silver on the top and graphite in the middle) I buy.

Making the rest is much like making a pen without all the details.

Drill a 3/8" center hole and mount the blank and simply turn the timber to size.

    Thanks Nick ...

Been spending time over on one of the rod building forums when I'm not working my tail off and need to get back to the lathe.
