    Default Snake pen

I have a client who wants a pen for his daughter's 18th birthday. She has a pet snake. Why is beyond me However, he wants a snake theme. My suggestion of a shotgun pen didn't hit the mark. I suggested Snake wood or snake skin. Anyone with any ideas of a true adder pen maybe with a snake wound around the blank?

I would definitely NOT make a snake skin pen, unless it is made from a shed skin, people who own snakes don't like the thought of killing them to make a pen. I found out the hard way

Ask if she has any shedded skins. Alternatively, you could use Snakewood.

They have decided on snake wood in a slimline with a bulging top to signify a rat in the snake's belly. It is actually similar to one I knocked up one day just to amuse myself with different shapes in slimlines. I think I would prefer a better kit than a slimline so I might have a look although budget is not a big issue.

I haven't used snake wood before but I gather that drilling has to be done very slowly 1/4 of an inch at a time and sanding very slowly too. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Greg
