Snake Skin Pens
Hi
I'm a novice and have seen what I think are imitation snake skin blanks .. I had heard they are really the outer layer of rope .. Looks great ....
i found some sites in the US that sell snake and rattle snake skin blanks - expensive by the time you freight.
i occasionally get shead snake around the bush behind my house .. Is this what they use to make the blanks. .... Not sure how you would do this ...
Randal
ps no snakes have been harmed in this post ...

Blanks can be made from real skin or shed skins but there is a knack to them and involves extensive effort. Some cheapie ones are just printed decals so yo need to be careful. Ian makes the best shed skins I have seen, see http://www.perfectpensandpencils.com...&sort=priceAsc.

Impressive I didn't realise Ian was only just up the highway. I'll drop in .. Also has some other nice blanks for that one off.
I had a quick Goggle. I didn't realise there was so much to this .. Might stick to turning rather than making blanks. .... got my hands full with these Goggomobiles ...
Should have asked. I have brought in the past these circuit board pens and have blown up a few .... I haven't been able to master the knack.
Do you have any tips. By the smell I'm guessing most are out of fibre glass resin .. Chips when you machine it.

Nah, Ian is from WA, just Perfect Pens & Pencils sell them .
Your chipping can be due to too slow a speed, too big a cut, but more likely blunt tools.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

paint tube white with oil paint (model plane paint)
use selleys quick fix to glue skin to tube.
cast with tinted resin (that comes from WA).
nothing else to do but make pen.
