    Default Someone Might Know ?

I recently got some " AK 47 " bullet pen clips , a recent visitor ( A vietnam Vet) when showed the clips said they were "Armorlite " which he used in the services . I have no Idea either way ,just wondering in the interests of accuracy could he be correct ? or could the "Armorlite " be also known as the "AK 47 " in the USA ? . cheers ~ John

Probably talking about the Armalite AR-15 John, no not the same as an AK74.

These were used in Vietnam, as well as the later AR-18

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AK-47

The Armalite rifles were 5.56mm or .223 cal, the AK-47 is 7.62 or .308.

Looking at the links Fred has posted the AR18 and the AK47 have some visual similarities. Could you post a pic of the clips and we can see which it is?

    cheers

John the AR-15 and AR-18 were both 5.56mm or 223 Remmington. The AK-47 was 7.62 x 39 and variation were developed, the M43 and later the M67. The AK-47 is only 1mm longer than a 38 revolver which were 7.62 x 38. If it is 7.62 it will be an AK-47 and if it has a taper in the shell then you may have a M43 which was Chec made.

Here is one of my early model Colt AR-15, an non-modified original, sold as the civilian model a few years after it was introduced as the M16 military version.
The straight clip with this weapon holds 14 rounds, plus one in the chamber, the bananna clip shown on the pen clip hold 30 rounds, plus one in the chamber.
For a carbine, it is scary accurate, with just the open blade sights, (no scope) I can shoot a 1" pattern at 100 yards...it makes a great "bush" gun, light, easy to clean, and shoots even when dirty with no problems.
The AK47 has a rectangle shaped receiver, the trigger guard is rounded, and the AK has a wood stock and hand grip, the barrel protector or front stock is two short wood pieces and the front sight is a single tall blade, the weapon has no carry handle on top.

Above is a photo of the AR-15/M16 variants, below is the AK47, with the old stamped steel receiver on top, the "new" machined receiver on the bottom.

It uses a somewhat smaller lead refill than a lot of others, but you can "write" really fast with it!
