    Default Spalted Mango ?

Hey guys. My next door neibour is a fanatical woodworker like me. He specialises in unusual fancy box's, and has a bunch of offcuts of Spalted Mango he collected from a large tree knocked over by cyclone Yasi. Just wondering if it's any good to turn ?. It looks unreal !!!!!!!!

I have some offcuts from our Bowen Mango Tree that I have used for some pen blanks that I am donating to some members of the North Queensland Cowboys Supporters Forum as a competition prize between all of us.

For the uninitiated, one of the Cowboy players is Matt " Mango" Bowen hence why I have chosen the Bowen mango wood plus because I had some for free from my back yard.

it has a really great spiraling grain with a bit of spalting. As it turned the grain just stood out. I am pleased i kept some when I pruned the tree a couple of years ago and not just burnt it like where it was destined to go.

    Default Update to Spalted Mango

OK, I was given a nice 1/2 log of Spalted Mango this morning by my woodworking buddy neibour, and thought I'd share the start to finish process for anyone that is even more of a beginner than me, ha ha ...... Log into a Gentlemans Pen. This half log has some nice 'scribble' spalting through it. Ended up getting 18 full size pen blanks + some off cuts for a couple of box lids.

What about the last picture? You know, the bit where you take a photo of the package containing some of the spalted mango blanks with my address on it?
