    Question What Species Is This?

OK, you wood pen turning Guys and Gals, I would appreciate some help to identify what species of wood this is?
I put some BLO on the cross section piece to bring out the color and grain.
The wood a very dense and quite heavy.

I was given a quantity of these tree branches that are dry and ready to turn. They measure 1" to 1-3/4" in diameter that I think will make some great looking pens.

Thanks for looking and looking forward to your input to help identify the wood.

I dunno either, but I reckon they'll look fantastic if drilled on an angle, to give a semi-crosscut effect!
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Well you being in Canada, I'm not 100% sure, but if I saw someone in Aus with it, I'd be 99% sure it's Camphor Laurel. Yous hould have been able to tell from the distinctive smell while cutting.

CL dos make great pens, especially when C-cut. I've done a few of them and they've come out great. Just be aware that it is a rather oily wood, which can cause finish problems, although I haven't noticed any with mine yet, but my stuff has been drying for 10+ years.

It looks like Lilac to me. I've got lilac bushes here and the bark looks like that to me.
The purple inside looks like lilac, too.

I know someone who turns little tiny wine goblets out of it .. small enough to put on
a necklace or a keychain! Pretty unusual, and he sells a ton of them.

You might ask Mike in Nanaimo, I think he turns it too.

Couldn't find many pics of the wood. (tons of photos of the flowers)

Purple inside ???? *rubs eyes* ou mean the muddy colour on the turned part in the first image? I don't think we have Lilac here in Aus, so I'll go with that if it's one of your local timbers.

I think you have nailed it. Just checked a pen I received in a pen swap from Canada and it was from Lilac and it has a faint purple tinge in it.

Took these pieces of wood to local tree farm and after some research confirmed it is Honeysuckle.
