Splitermagnet Blanks Feedback
Splitermagnet offered 5 people blanks a few weeks back for feedback.
I said I'd do one over this weekend.
The blanks were straight and very dry, very nice to turn and look nice finished.
I was planning on making one with a cap to use as much as possible but I have a cold and cut it a bit short with watering eyes and sneezing so went for sierra instead. Being sick is my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
When I took the picture for the forum I think I can see where the CA has split a bit at nib end. Thats cool, I can fix that.

I'll try blank 1 when I'm not crook, not going to make that mistake again
Thanks Splitermagnet.

I'm hoping that another few coats of CA and then MM back again will fix it, In fact I better go try it now.
First I need to see if it is a crack, could have been a cat hair, Need to find my glasses as well..
Stand by, will go see whats happening.
Just had a look with loupe and its a crack.
Am going to fix it....
failure is not an option.
OK Fixed it,
You can't see it with naked eye but with 10x loupe you can just see where it was, I should have used super thin CA for first layers so it could get in to the very bottom of crack.

And to make sure I don't do it again.
I'm going to leave the bush in the other end when I press home the clip assembly.

Not a bad idea with the bush and a great recovery

I think what happened is the CA that runs over then end onto the bush.
I sand that down of course but I think maybe I didn't go just far enough.
So when I pressed the clip in the vise the other end was pushing on the small CA ridge that was running around the pen edge.
I think thats what split it or it could have lifted completely.
Thats why I will always use the bush as that will be pushing on the tube and wood rather than the coating.
Just in case I didn't sand the extra CA far enough.
My thoughts anyway.
