    Default Spotted Dog Churchill

Had this wood for a while so forget where I got it Called Spotted dog , obviously the grubs love it , quite soft so I soaked in hardener for a day after the initial drilling. It was about an inch square blank so chose a larger style pen to show it off, and reduce wastage hehe. Finished with sealer and "Glow" and a few coats of CA over that ,looks quite nice sort of "caramel swirls" The Churchill kit is black chrome I think, no label on packet

Pretty sure its from AU ,I would have picked it up on E-Bay some time back I think. It could also be "Leopard" wood, hard to find out much about it . But lovely coloring hehe, even if it's been "eaten" the holes are nice and neat ! and easily filled

Russell ! had the same camera for some time, but I saw a tip on the forums about using a grey background to let the camera adjust itself properly, All I do is crop and resize a bit ,and sometimes sharpen , thats about the limit of my photo ability hehe ,looks as though it helps a bit

    Beautiful job John

I too have never heard of spotted dog timber, but I know I have some around here someone gave me . Makes me wonder if it is spalted dogwood, but I really have no idea.

very nice looks like a piece of mackay cedar with plenty of white mixing with the red causing the "flames " effect that is seen in mackay very often

Bugger ! My abbreviation of wood type was a bit off on the blanks , after much searching of old emails and every site I ever bought off, I finally discovered that "sp dog" was short for spalted dogwood sorry about that confusion , I think Neil got it right hehe, I must contact the person I got it from in the states and show him a piccy as I don't think he makes pens ,but likes to see the results . Cheers ~ John

It is always good to see what someone has done with blanks that you have given them

    Very nicely done John!
Fit and finish look great along with good choice of
kit and plating to show off the timber.
