[QUOTE=Dangermouse;664709]Hi guys, finally got the nerve (and cash) to try my first statesman.
Dressed in Cocobolo, and finished with rustin's plastic as per froggie's tute (including sealing with CA and gassing myself with the fumes ). /QUOTE]

Really nice pen DM and yes the rustins finish is great. I followed Froggies tute as well but didn't use the CA due to the fumes (I'm sure they are not good for you) but it turned out as well I think. Maybe try a bit of scrap and see what you think

    Thanks Pete,

I've used the rustin's without the CA on a few earlier pens and it has worked really well. I think from what the tute says the CA is supposed to help smooth out the surface (fills in minor cracks, smoothes over raised grain, etc) prior to the rustin's going on. That's my understanding, anyway, unless I'm way off track?

Seems to do the job, but the fumes are a bit of a hazard...

I figure the rustins is a thick product and so should fill small voids etc easier than CA but not having tried the CA method I can't really comment on that.
