Hey Mik, Just to get this into my head, not that I ever want to attempt something like this. You build all those bits and pieces up by glueing them to your 7mm brass tube. Then you cast them in clear resin and then turn the clear resin on your lathe just till it doesnt penetrate through to your bits and pieces underneath??

Hmmm, but then you would have to block the ends of the brass tube off to not get any resin inside it,..??

I make these ones just for me at the moment but lots of turners from all over the world want them
Problem is with the time it takes to make them no one has jumped at the $100+ price tag just for the Blank
I do sell blanks through 2 shops in the US, just hoping international postage gets going again so i can send them more blanks

Hiya Paul, these blanks use a 3/8" tube but yes your basic methodology is correct, i have some specialty molds for casting my blanks, they are made out of either a soft silicon or in the case of these i use molds that are CNC cut from a solid block of HDPE and they have silicon plugs for the ends of the tubes

They look unbelievable! Definitely a cut above the usual ones from the States!

I think if anyone understood just how much time and effort goes into making them they wouldn't think the price excessive.

I really think you should approach one of the Aussie suppliers (Timberbits, Gary Pye, etc) to see if they'd agree to offer them for sale.

I know they'd be fairly expensive due to the amount of work required, but if you could get some processes in place to work on a number at a time and reduce the build time, I think you could do really well in the long run.

These really are exceptionally nice, and with the US dollar so high now too it might be quite attractive to overseas buyers as well, especially with the Aussie moniker.

Thanks for the thoughts mate
I do sell my blanks all over the world, 2 shops keep them in the US and i also have a number of people that send orders to me directly
A number of people have asked about getting these blanks but the $$$ value has turned away most ... the collectors are still interested though
The biggest problem with selling internationally at the moment is the lack of flights, 8 weeks for the last lot of parcels to get delivered to the US
I am unemployed now so blank making and my pens will help to keep the heater on until things calm down in the world
